THE ORIGINAL CUT:

Here is the unadulterated cobbled together film that we turned in as our entry into the 2008 - 24 Hour Film Race (www.filmracing.com). We shot all the footage and got it imported at around 4pm. That left us less than 6-hours to get it all cut together. While I was pulling out all the useable clips, Brian and Klint went into Brian's bedroom to record the voice-over. Klint really did an amazing job harnessing his inner Don LaFontaine (RIP) and belted out an over-the-top movie trailer voice guy. I had Brian and Klint over my shoulder belting out ideas and I grabbed clips and put them together as fast as I could. We went through some music samples earlier and this music selection popped out. The mouse on the computer started freaking out and I had to reboot several times and finally I got the thing exported out to DVD by 9:30. With Brian and Brandon arguing over which of their maps was better at getting to Mangia Pizza on Guadalupe, they both sat up front and got us their with 10-minutes to spare. 11 teams entered. Yippee Kai Yay Mother F$^&er!
THE DIRECTOR'S VISION "BAD-ASS" CUT:

If we would have had another day for editing, I spent about 24 hours re-editing and adding effects. It's pretty much the same edit with a few different shots added to try and remain close to the original quickly put together piece, but you can see a lot more went into it. There is added grain, scratches, hairs, dirt, shutter issues, explosions and sound effects. I believe what really drew it all together was the added sound effect of a 16mm projector running through the entire film. Here's the recipe, in no particular order, After Effects (Boris Continuum), Speakerphone (for the muffled drive-in movie theater sound), Photoshop (to create the Rated-R logo, with some help from vector graphics from brandsoftheworld.com), Artbeats Explosions library and Smartsound SonicFire Pro for the music.
WITH JAPANESE SUBTITLES:

This another lame attempt at humor. Before we started shooting, we watched the trailers for Grindhouse. They were only on the Japanese import which has both movies together and all the trailers. It being Japanese, it has subtitles throughout the whole movie, so we thought it might be funny to add them across this bottom. It was overkill and detracted from the overall piece. The particular symbols in the picture above reads "death danger monkey kung-fu." This is also a slightly less of a final cut, more tweaking was done.
